In this project the Room with a View was inspired by "Philips Pavilion by Frank Lloyd Wright and "Furrowed Oak" by David Nash. The meaning of this piece is represented by the curves in the pathway where one will never be too crowded or have too much space, remaining balanced throughout. The pathway is smooth creating a natural flow through out the pathway.

Artist Inspiration:
In my piece "Swift" my inspiration was "Philips Pavilion by Frank Lloyd Wright and "Furrowed Oak" by David Nash. In my piece I included the two smooth curves from Frank Lloyd allowing the pathways to have a clean flow. Then I incorporated a vary of height in which I was inspired by David Nash artwork allowing the pathway to switch up from feeling tall to short.
Planning:
1. My work creates a relationship with the land and water by giving the person an option to go in two directions. Once you go one way the the pathway gets narrower and leads into one pathway. Once the person reaches the one pathway then you have to almost squeeze through and be open to the lake.
2. When walking through the person will feel very open to narrow and back to open again, due to the layout of the pathways.
a. There is a lot of curves which makes you want to continue walking through.
3. There are places where its narrow and you have to squeeze through but then you feel more open once reaching the end of the pathway.
4. The pathway opens up to the space once leaving a narrow pathway, embracing the view of the lake.
5. My piece includes more than one path which gives the person walking through it more options and decisions to make. The portals in my piece are quite open and walking through its a open space and as you continue to walk the walls become taller. The place is shown by the difference between the beginning and end of the piece, in which the beginning is more open and the end is more narrow until reaching the end of the pathway itself.
6. At first when creating my piece I was just looking at the symmetry that I could include but once I was finished I noticed how my final outcome looked like a mix between the Aries and Taurus horoscope signs. Generally it can stand for the multiple twists and turns that you have to go through during life.
7. First I can stat with giving the person 2 pathways to chose from because you will always have more than one option throughout your life. Next work be the symmetry of the piece and how each path is the same way but the opposite direction of each other. A final decision would be making the entry wider and then making it more and more narrower as the two paths connect and you reach the end of the wall to see the view.

Making Process: |
To create the bets out come of my final piece I experimented with the wood to see if I was able to have the wood curve more. Originally the thinnest piece of wood didn't have much slack, so I collaborated and found the idea to soak the wood and then shape the wood into a curve. Once I pulled the wood out of the water I placed the wood into a structure so that it could dry into the curved shape.
ReflectionWhen creating this piece I was having difficultly with cutting the cardboard with the x-acto knife because each time I have to make sure that the blade was sharp to have a clean cut. Otherwise the cardboard would look fringy and have poor craftsman ship. There was also a moment where I was struggling to curve the wood because I didn't want to apply to much pressure so that the wood would break. Next time if I were to do this project again I would let the wood soak for a little longer, hoping that the wood will bend a bit easier. What I think turned out well while doing this project was being able to stain he wood a different color, and making it blend more with its surroundings. I also think that the trees draws more attention to the piece.
Critique:In my piece my inspiration "Philips Pavilion by Frank Lloyd Wright" is represented by the two smooth curves that are shown in which I tried to imitate that sleek curve movement into my piece. In David Nash's artwork reminds me of the overall goal of this art piece, to create a pathway and I feel as if he work demonstrates that well in which I also tried to imitate. he includes different widths where I decided to include different heights making the pathway fluctuate from feeling large and small. Overall I think that my piece includes both inspirations equally, applying curves and varies of height.

First when starting this project I gather all of my materials being the cardboard, black stock paper and the wood strips. Then I started with the cardboard cutting several strips to for layers towards for the sand. Each layer I used an x-acto knife to cut curves to represent the sand. Then from there I glued each layer down onto each other. Once the sand was glued together I glued the black stock paper close to the edge of the sand to create a elongated affect. Then I cut the thin pieces of wood so that one end was thicker than the other. Fro there I placed the wood into a container with water to soak so that I would be able to make it curve. While the wood was soaking I created a structure out of foam for the wood to sit into to be dried. This allowed the wood to keep its curved shaped. Then I stained the wood to a darker color to blend more with he sand and color theme. Once the wood strips were done I used the x-acto knife to cut into the cardboard to insert the wood strips. From there I added these yellow and orange flower to represent trees, creating the feeling of the season Fall. For a final touch I added little pebbles to represent the edge of the shoreline. Once everything was glued on the project was finished.

Meaning:
The meaning of this piece is represented by how one feels when walking through the pathway. This pathways has two curves, one when to the right when you walk into the pathway and then one on the left which leads you the the shoreline. This piece contains smooth curves that provides a natural flow. When one is walking through the pathway they feel small due to the walls and how tall they are when first walking in, but once into the space the walls decline smaller and smaller then rises back up in height, repeating the process. The pathways also gives you a narrow feeling when entering the space but once inside the space opens up in a large curve motion then because narrow and bigger again that leads you out of the pathway. Overall the pathway fluctuates in height and space which keeps one's feelings when walking through balanced and contained making sure that one doesn't feel like they are crowded of have too much space.
Connection to ACT
1. Identify cause and effect relationships between your inspiration and your artwork.
In my piece "Swift" my inspiration was "Philips Pavilion by Frank Lloyd Wright and "Furrowed Oak" by David Nash where I included the smooth curves and the different heights into m piece.
2. What is the overall approach the author has regarding the topic of your inspiration?
The overall approach to David Nash artwork was to create artwork from trees that have fallen over or struck by lightening and developing new pieces of art.
3. What kind of generalizations and conclusions have you discovered about people, ideas, cultures, etc. while you researched your inspiration?
The generalization that I can conclude from this piece is how a pathways shape and heights differences can affect a person as they walk through, feeling either small, crowded or even spacious.
4. What was the central idea or theme around your inspirational research?
The central idea around my research was to create a pathway that allowed you to squeeze through, feel open and then squeeze through, being revealed to the water and scenery.
5. What kind of inferences did you make while reading your research?
The inferences that I have made while doing my research is how the types of lines that your create for your pathway affect the overall space that your create and how it would feel walking through that pathway.
