Artist Inspiration:
My piece "Wonderland" is a bust of the child which is a ready- made piece that is inspired by "Never land Found" by Wesley Wofford in which I imitated the face of the sculpture into my piece. I created curly hair and made the child in my piece have higher child bones to make it look like he is smiling. The other inspiration piece that I used is by Gregory Grozos called "The Garden of Unearthly Delights". From this piece I was inspired by using the open head and nature like theme by my piece including cracked skull and having a beach theme inside.
Process:
Planning Sketches:
- Before starting my project I created three planning sketching to put all of my ideas together.
Making Process:Before creating my piece I bought air dry clay to make the drying process faster. I started this piece by taking a large chunk of the cay and forming the shoulders. After creating the shoulders and neck and started constructing a head in which I joined it onto the neck of the piece. From there I started shaping the head into the form of a child, adding hair, facial features and smoothing everything down. Then I made the final touches and hollowed out the bottom of my piece to have an even faster drying process. Once the piece was dry I tried to smooth out the facial features by using sand paper to my the piece more realistic. After using the sand paper I applied a white coat of paint onto the sculpture to finish off the look, making it as neat as possible. Then I was able to attach the top part of the skull and have it hanging off onto his shoulder. This is wear I started t fill the inside of the child's head wit the idea of a memory of the beach. I was able to make the inside of the head he sandy hill and had it flow into the top section of the head into the water. Then, I applied the glue down and used brown sugar as the resemblance of sand. The I was able to glue down the beach items to bring the whole idea together.

Reflection:This sculpture was enjoyable to create since I have had some experience working with clay. When going through the process when creating my piece I was having issues with the why the clay was drying because it would slowly start to droop but then I decided to use these thinner sticks of wood for support. Then when applying the sugar to represent sand onto my piece, the sugar would absorb the glue, becoming all wet and runny. Next time if I were to do this piece again, I would do the hair of the child a different way because of how fragile and delicate it is. I was able to fix that by adding a second layer of sugar to the piece. What I think turned out with my piece is the structure of the child and the overall outlook of how its not completely perfect. I also think that keeping the piece its original color of white allows the viewers to create their own emotions to the piece and what they think it reminds them of.
Critique:The piece "Wonderland" reflects off of my artist inspiration of Gregory Grozos because I included the idea of having a split skull with the top coming off on he side, as well as including a theme inside the head in which mine was incorporating a memory of your past childhood such as the beach. Another piece that I was inspired by was by Wesley Wofford in which I used the idea of imitating a similar facial expression of the child, where he is smiling and looks playful. By having my piece include this facial expression, it ties together with what the piece is representing. Overall my artists inspirations were both involved into my piece by incorporating several elements from each artworks to create my own piece.
Meaning:The piece I creates "Wonderland" represents a the memories of ones childhood and staying in that time period, reminiscing about your past experiences. The reason that this piece is named "Wonderland" is because when you are a child you are constantly thinking about different ideas and you're quite imaginative when you are a child. I also did the idea of a beach setting because when I was a child the beach was a place that I always when to, to release energy and have fun. This is why I incorporated this memory of mine into my piece "Wonderland" because of how it connects me back t my childhood experiences. Each of the pieces that I included into the inside of my piece each connect to a specific part of my memories at the beach. Such as my father was he one to pick a spot by he trees in the shade while my brother and I would race down to the shore with our pale buckets and shovels making little water trails. "Wonderland" overland connect to my past memories as a child but is to represent the general idea of a one connecting back with the memories as child and thinking about all the good times that they had.

Connecting to ACT
1. Identify cause and effect relationships between your inspiration and your artwork.
In my piece, my inspiration was Gregory Grozos work called "The Garden of Unearthly Delights" and "Neverland Found" by Wesley Wofford where I included the nature like scenery and the idea of having a pen head, as well as having a similar facial feature as the piece by Wofford.
2. What is the overall approach the author has regarding the topic of your inspiration?
The overall approach in Wesley Wofford work is to create pieces of artwork that more abstract, larger pieces that play with color, form and texture.
3. What kind of generalizations and conclusions have you discovered about people, ideas, cultures, etc. while you researched your inspiration?
What I can conclude from doing this piece is the affect of different memories on each individual and how each person has a moment where they can go back to remember a pleasant time during their childhood.
4. What was the central idea or theme around your inspirational research?
The central idea of his piece was to connect back to ones memories as a child and how they play a role in their life, such as how one can remember all the details of that specific memory.
5. What kind of inferences did you make while reading your research?
The inferences I have made while doing my research is the affect of the clay and how depending on the color and texture of the piece can give off a certain mood.
